We realise that many people are a little apprehensive when they first come to see us. We do everything we can to put you at ease.
You will be asked to fill out a confidential medical history. This will enable us to ensure you can be treated in a safe and appropriate way.
Your initial dental consultation will begin by enquiring whether you have any specific problems or concerns that you wish to discuss.
The examination will conducted in several stages and will usually consist of:
- A basic head and neck cancer check.
- An examination of the jaw joints.
- An examination of the tongue and lining of the mouth.
- An examination of the teeth and gums.
- Appropriate x-rays may be taken and these are normally discussed with you during the visit.
- Using a small video camera inside the mouth, any problems can be shown to you.
- Sometimes impressions of your teeth are taken so that models can be produced.
- If your treatment is complex or there are several options, we normally send you a written treatment plan so that you have time to think about it. We can then either discuss it with you over the telephone or arrange another visit at no further charge.
